What We Believe

We believe that Jesus is, “The Way, The Truth and The Life.” Through faith in Him alone we are saved from sins penalty – eternal separation from God. By confessing our sins and believing in Him as Savior and Lord, we become members of God’s family, receiving the gift of eternal and abundant life. As we grow in our relationship with God, He works in us to fulfil His purpose in the world. We approve the statements of the Baptist Faith and Message.

Core Beliefs

The Scriptures: The Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of the Living God. The Bible was written by men divinely inspired & is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.

Man: Man was created by the special act of God, in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning, man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God.

Jesus Christ: Jesus is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit & born of a virgin, Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed & did the will of God by honoring the divine law by His personal obedience. His death on the cross made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body & appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He now sits at the right hand of God the Father as Mediator & Intercessor. He will return in power & glory to judge the world & to consummate His redemptive mission. He dwells in all believers as the living & ever present Lord.

Salvation: Salvation is free. God, in His unmerited favor, freely offers salvation to persons who place their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. Salvation is secure. God is the Author of salvation, the Sustainer of salvation, and the Finisher of salvation. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of Christ because “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6 ). Salvation is thorough. As a believer in Jesus, we are a new creation. God redeems the whole person. As a result, believers are called to live holy lives.

Baptism: Christian Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior; the believer’s death to sin; the burial of the old life; and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. First Baptist West accepts immersion Baptism from other denominations that meet what we believe are the Biblical qualifications.

The Lord’s Supper: The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby Christians, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
